_________________________

I have been a professional artist for nearly 40 years and with a fine art degree from a [Australian] National art school, my grounding is in Photorealism from the late 1970's. My interest in cartooning started as a child with my hero Big Daddy Ed Roth and his pinstriping nemesis von Dutch. My abiding love of popular American culture knows no bound and I have been a collector of redline muscle cars since I had my first red on red custon '67 custom 'stang in 1968. Tv and films feed my hunger for the days when we were kids swapping Batman cards to dragster bikes, moon landings, rock 'n roll and surf kulcha.

I have a journeyman certificate in Signwriting [Signpainting] which took me into wild exotic fields like Sideshows where I met wildcatting carnies of all complexions from all over Australia. I spent 10 years honing my cartoon skills with this crew and developed what I hope is my own 'signature style' I have also been involved in the marketplace as a landscape/seascape/portrait artist. I have exhibited extensively throughout Australia and my work hangs in private collections from coal and steel company board rooms in Germany to Sumitomo exec's in Japan and high falutin homes in the US. I have exhibited every year for the last 30 years at in my home town of Newcastle Oz and apparently I am considered a premier pastel artist, according to the press, so you are purchasing not only a fine brand name with serious street cred but also an experience in some quality art.

Thanks for your interest in the mundanbe and often bizarre world of high art, regards, 'RockitRod' Bathgate

GLOSSARY OF TERMS FOR MATERIALS I USE:

a] GOUACHE-- A type of watercolour/poster paint used by professional illustrators, sensitive to moisture and the painting needs to be framed under glass or Perspex. Colour fast. ie: does not fade.

b] ACRYLIC POLYMER PAINTS-- Water based paint that is quick drying and very hardy as well as colour fast. Acrylics have been around for about 70 years and should not deteriorate for many decades.

c] PASTELS-- Soft dry professional artists quality pastels [not unlike dry chalk except much more expensive] Permanent medium that does not fade, normally used for landscape/seascape/portraiture. Very sensitive medium that needs to be framed under glass or perspex to stop moisture and dust depositing on the surface. As it must be framed under glass/perspex the picture must be kept out of direct sunlight so as to stop condensation forming under the glass/perspex. Pastels under glass should last for thousands of years without discolouring or deteriorating.

d] OIL PAINTS-- Slow drying paint that is very durable and robust and remains colour fast and permanent. Oils are much more fluid than Acrylic polymer paints. They are traditionally higher luster and brilliance than other mediums and can either be framed with just a molding or left unframed on as the canvas on a  wooden stretcher frame. Oils should last for many hundreds of years.

e] ILLUSTRATION BOARD-- A professional cardboard with artist quality 'Canson' paper glued to the board when it is milled in the factory. Each board is dipped in mild acetic acid to inhibit mold. I use this board [often referred to as Matt board because it is the same material that surrounds a picture that has been framed under glass] for Gouache pictures [eg: Monster Cartoons] and also Pastel landscape/seascape/portraits. I 'fix' the pastels with a professional workable fixative, a polymer lacquer ...not unlike hair spray but much more expensive. This sets the pastel so that any dust will not fall from the picture.

f] CANVAS ON A WOODEN STRETCHER FRAME-- Normally I use a primed [Gesso] cotton/nylon blend canvas that is stretched onto a light wooden frame that can be framed with molding or left unframed with a clean painted edge. The larger the painting, usually, the thicker the wooden stretcher frame.

g] PERSONALISED IMAGES I can take an image that YOU might have and tailor it to suit your needs, be it toony/landcape/seacape or protraits.  I am a landscape artist and city scapes are not my gig!

SIZES AND PRICES-- Individual works and mediums vary in such things as the amount of detail [ie: labor involved], size and drying time in the case of Oil paints.

a] MONSTER CARTOONS:

MATERIALS--Gouache on illustration board

SIZE [IN INCHES AND FEET VERTICAL OR HORIZONTAL FORMAT AS REQUIRED] & PRICE [US$]

.... 8" X 10" FULL COLOUR...$150. BLACK AND WHITE...$100

....12" X 16" FULL COLOUR...$250. BLACK AND WHITE...$180

....16" X 20" FULL COLOUR...$350. BLACK AND WHITE...$250

---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- -----------------------------

b] LANDSCAPE/SEASCAPE/PORTRAITURE:

MATERIALS-- Soft pastels on illustration board in full colour

SIZE* AND PRICE [US$]

....12" X 10"...$450

....12" X 15"...$700

....15" X 15"...$900

....15" X 20"...$1,500

....20" X 24"...$1,800

....24" X 30"...$2,200

....30" X 36"...$3,000

....30" X 40"...$3,800

*This is a rough guide and custom proportions can be gauged from these standard sizes.

---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------

Any of the above subjects can be done in gouache/acrylic paints or oil paints, however the pricing is greater for acrylics and oils because of the greater amount of time to produce works in these mediums. I would suggest that for every work either Monster Cartoons or Landscape/Seascape/Portraits you can add 50% to the prices recommended in the above lists to give you an idea of relative pricing. eg: for a MONSTER CARTOON [done full colour in oil paint on canvas instead of gouache on illustration board] 12" X 16" the cost would be $500[US$], instead of $250[US].

---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- --------------------------------------
